You could do a simple paint using a brown craft paint along with some black and hand paint a letter on the face of it. This makes a cute and simple monogrammed football for the front door (or where it can be protected). If you have a vinyl cutter, you can also cut some vinyl and make it really unique!

This wooden football sign is available in 2 inch to 36 inch in 5 different thicknesses. The thinner wood football shapes in 1/8″ and 3 or 4 inches would be ideal for decorating on a wreath. The thicker 1/2″ would be ideal for making a personalized piece with vinyl lettering.

You can paint the wood football shape a solid black for a regular silhouette look. If you paint it with chalk board paint, you can use it as a chalk board for a unique piece of decor.
